Charitable Contributions

In addition to direct annual tax contributions to public services the resort industry makes each year, the industry and the more than 215,000 people it employs make significant charitable contributions to the community through financial donations and volunteered time.

United Way of Southern Nevada, United Way of Northern Nevada & the Sierra, Nevada Cancer Institute, Opportunity Village, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, Boys & Girls Club, American Red Cross, United Blood Service and Lou Ruvo Brain Center are only a few of Nevada's charities that benefit from gifts and volunteer time provided by the resort industry.

A number of resort companies have established or are closely aligned with charitable foundations that raise and distribute monies throughout Nevada. Examples include MGM MIRAGE's Voice Foundation, which has raised more than $7.2 million for Nevada charities; Harrah's Entertainment whose $2.2 million directly impacted seniors and education in Nevada and along with Caesars Entertainment's, a part of Harrah's, foundation and corporation together contribute nearly $20 million a year to philanthropic and civic projects.

Beyond cash contributions, many gaming companies provide employee incentives to become involved in the community. Through the STARS program, Station Casinos encourages team members to take part in volunteer activities and engage in quality of life issues within the community. Harrah's Entertainment employees spend thousands of hours in community outreach each year as a result of the company's Harrah's Entertainment Reaching Out (H.E.R.0.) program.

Through its Voice Volunteer program, MGM MIRAGE link employees to community organizations, enabling them to find the best fit for their interests and talents. The Dollars for Doers program also supports MGM MIRAGE employees' volunteer commitments by providing mini-grants to the employees' agency of choice, based on their time and commitment to the agency. More than 200 grants totaling more than $100,000 have been provided through Doers for Dollars.

Corporate and employee involvement is important to any successful community and the Nevada's resort industry is committed to making Nevada's communities a better place.
